Trump gets elected prez. What happens if thousands of government employees resign on the day he is sworn in?

The idea comes from an Answermug friend who answered a question of mine which was "what would you like a president Trump to do FIRST THING" My friend said to fire all the generals, etc. because Trump already knows more than they do. Then he said unless the generals resign which is what they should do. So I got to thinking what happens if everyone in government who is anti-Trump bails?

He will have successfully trimmed the federal budget on the first day!

As far as I'm concerned that would be a mark in his favor inasmuch as, if I were he, I'd shrink its size by sixty percent in the first year of my term! Executive orders here we come!  DEA? Gone!  EPA?  Gone! HUD? Gone! DHS? Gone! BATFE?  Gone!

    And then I'd get nasty.

Well now, if he 'retires' all those generals, it wouldn't make much difference since high ranking officers get a nice retirement pay, and he would still have a huge deficit to deal with.

  • HA HA HA! Those people won't give up those sweet jobs and pensions. They start counting down to retirement on the first day of the job.

Perfect.  Cut out the make work and eliminate all the dead weight and half of them could do the job.  Taxpayers win.

Not really a win for taxpayers.  Many of those people wouldn't be able to find jobs which means unemployment and/or welfare.  I'm not saying that the bureaucracy shouldn't be trimmed, but you can be sure that these people will not be resigning.

Taxpayers would win.  People who quit a good job because of who wins an election.............well, deserve what happens when one quits a good job without a plan.  Workers are workers and have no property interest in a job.

I'd have to imagine before quitting a job, one has a plan most of the time.  I just don't see that many government employees giving up the pay and benefits because of who may be in office for the next 4 years.

None of that was the question.  This was a what-if question, Spunky.  If you want to add more what-ifs it might be good to post another question.  This one was a simple what if.  My answer was a simple answer to that.  :)

I know people have a hard time staying on topic.  But, I try to....sometimes I fail.  :)

Save your lecture for someone who actually cares what you think.  Why don't we just stay away from each other. This post was edited by SpunkySenior at October 25, 2016 3:02 PM MDT

I seriously doubt anyone is going to give up their government job and benefits if the candidate they aren't voting for, gets in.

It's going to take a lot more than that to knock all the dead wood off the tree of government. Besides, they'll all wait to see if there's a buy-out package offered. It would be a good start though.
