Does every family have a family member that doesn’t quite fit in? Like a black sheep?

Why does that happen?

No not every family.  I was the "black sheep" in mine. Not only not fitting in but leaving to be a hippie and live with a band in San Francisco.

How did it work out? Was it fun living with a band?

Oh great.  I got hepatitis and was hospitalized.  The next year I moved in with a former teacher.

Oh dear. What happened with the teacher? Was it a happy ending? Did you get married?

No haha did not marry until I was 53. He taught me a lot of stuff but I left him after a year because I feel in love with the guy who lived upstairs.

My brother was a nice guy and very intelligent...but he chose a life of crime, homelessness, drugs and alcohol etc. He died three years ago at 60.

  • Not all families have a black sheep.

Unconsciously, through birth-order and being at different stages of cognitive development when events happen in the family, no two children are affected in the same way.

Some kids react in the opposite direction against over-controlling or tyrannical parents. They discover their best way to survive is defiance. And then they never stop defying and inadvertently rile everyone around them as adults.

The scape-goat personality evolves through trying to stop conflict between the parents by drawing it onto the self.

And some conditions are freak accidents of genes that the parents can neither understand nor accept.

    Yes, and it's my half-brother!

I wouldn't call him the black sheep of the family, but I would call him the loser of the family.  He takes after his own dad. (He's my mom's son but not my dad's.)
