Over the last few years I have noticed several websites that give release dates of records often put Sundays. I am still not convinced that records are released on Sundays and I would have to see some official documentation before I consider accepting it. I have mentioned this on various sites in the last five or six years, yet they still continue to give Sundays as release dates, the latest one I've seen being a single release of "The Stranger" by Billy Joel supposedly released on 21 May 1978. If they had said it was 22 May 1978 I wouldn't have questioned it, I would have accepted it as being released on that particular Monday, so why did they put 21 May 1978 knowing full well it was a Sunday? Do they do it on purpose so that I will continue to ask questions about it? If not, why else do they do it?
Look at a calendar. What is the first day of every single week? They use Sundays just for consistency. It has nothing to do with when the physical release date is. They simply use Sunday because it is the first day of a calendar week.
Is THAT the reason why they do it? You know, I would never have thought of that in a month of Sundays. Lol:)
The vast majority of records are released on either Mondays or Fridays, so 22 May 1978 would be instantly feasible by virtue of being a Monday, and 21 May 1978 would be instantly suspect by virtue of being a Sunday. Since I like everything to be correct and precise, I always question anything I see that isn't.
A cost benefit analysis is needed to determine whether the time and effort you expend in the investigation is worthwhile.
