Hehe! I like to say it's not only my favourite food, but objectively the right choice. Not many foods you can bake, boil, roast, mash, fry, etc. yet always make tasty. Easy to grow your own, too--mostly a matter of putting them just a little ways in the ground, then digging up more.

Now, my neighbour Buba can't stand the sight of potatoes anymore... But that's because he ate nothing else for a year or two.

Very true, a potato by any other name is still a potato, everyone of them delicious.

Corn does a good job of competing with potatoes.
Corn, corn bread, cornstarch, whiskey, beer, fuel, plastics, carpets, corn syrup etc.

Corn and green beans are my favorite foods. A generous serving of each is a great dinner for me. I wish our government would not allow gmo corn, or anything for that matter. Corn and potatoes are the bulk of gmo human foods in USA. This post was edited by Thriftymaid at January 25, 2024 8:13 AM MST

I can do without the green beans. So you can have them I take the potatoes and corn with a nice smoked pork chop.

Love corn with quality butter and a little salt, Yummm.  The butter used by high end restaurants is the best, still haven't found a match in store bought butter, I keep looking.

I don't know what kind of butter they use in high end restaurants, but I believe I read something about Irish butter being fantastic, although not that healthy.

EDIT:  If you want to know about Irish butter, you can try this link:

I think I still have some in my refrigerator, it's not the same.  I keep trying different kinds of butter for that real buttery taste and am disappointed every time.
Just happened to think; perhaps it's the bread, maybe they put butter flavoring in the wonderful, hot, freshly baked bread.  IDK

I have an Irish sister, but her butter I bought by bulk better be better butter both by brand and by butteriness, or there’s going to be big trouble, brother! Brrrrrrrr.
