    I doubt very much that I could bring myself to try it. I gag at the thought of mac and cheese.

    I make it with macaroni, eggs, milk, and cheese.  I beat a little flour in with the eggs/milk.  That is the standard.  I've added all of the obvious things like ham or sausage.  I have added a bit of mushroom soup (undiluted) which was good.  Be creative.  You can hardly mess up noodles and cheese.
