Is there any important difference between someone who is actually stupid, and one who is just "pretending" to be stupid?

Some people like to pretend, and think they are making a joke on everyone else. For those not in on the "joke", there is no practical difference, in my opinion.

    It's more complicated than that.

Many people who are pretending to be stupid ACTUALLY ARE stupid and are only pretending to be stupid because they lack the intellectual capacity to reallize how dumb they are...;-D...

If someone is pretending to be stupid, important is no longer a word to use.

That's another very good reason not to treat them any differently than you would someone who is "really" stupid.

    xD

People who pretend to be stupid usually have something to hide. For example, they may be undercover agents and they think nobody will suspect them if they act like they are stupid. It's an old trick. Lol:)

Or, as is more likely, they are just assholes. That's another possibility, one that seems far more common than secret agent shenanigans.

Maybe, but don't underestimate the possibility of my suggestion. There's a lot more of that going on than you think. Lol:)

I'd say more often than not, the pretender is so stupid, he thinks he is clever and is really pretty stupid after all.

Then there are the other ones of which I often play with.   I am not stupid and find it amusing to have people think I am.  Sometimes I am being brilliant and they think I am anyway.  Hey, wait a minute... maybe I am one of those guys I was making fun of to begin with.  Uh Oh

Maybe they are both stupid, but for slightly different reasons? Anyway, it's nearly impossible to tell.
