Did you know 43% of registered voters did not vote in the presidential election?

Do some people know it is their responsibility to vote? Didn't their parents teach them about the importance of it? I remember my parents always considered this very important, so I feel the same way.

  • That may be so. .. But isn't it wise to vote at least for the least flawed in the immediate and then also take pay in getting better candidates in future?

  • I won't argue with your thoughts on the quality of the candidates .... But surely one is seen add less potentially damaging than the other

  • I have never voted, or even registered to do so, though I could have voted in nine presidential elections.

  • In Australia voting is mandatory and you can be fined if you don't.

  • That seems a tad fascist. A deep intrusion on personal political freedom.

There is no mandate that people must cast a ballot in the US. This post was edited by Bozette at November 17, 2016 12:22 AM MST

And had people been mandated to vote the result would have been the same or worse.

They were not in the majority of those that did vote.

Again, had the people been mandated to vote, the result would have been the same or worse.

How do you know?   Unless you think Hillary is just as bad as Trump and people who go that route, know very little in my humble estimation.  43 percent is half the voters.  That could have tipped the win in Hillary's side.  She already won the popular vote.  SHE WON it.  The electoral college says differently.

That is why those 43 percent could have made a huge difference.

That is my opinion, Sharonna, I am well aware that yours differs.  If you read further down in my conversation with Ozgirl, I stated that he did not receive the majority of the votes cast.  Of course that 43% could have made a huge difference, it could have been worse.  JMHO

Are you implying that the non-voters won and the electoral college should declare no prez for the next 4 years and let the Senate and reps sort themselves out. Or did the non-voters win there too??

What about the freedom not to vote?
If you hate both candidates equally and not really care who wins then why should you be forced to choose one?
